They occur as as small, brown or black or larger, multi-coloured patches on the skin with an irregular outline.
Melanomas may also crust and bleed and may even itch. They spread easily and are therefore the dreaded killers.

Melanomas occur most frequently in caucasian people with blond hair and fair skin with many freckles. They may affect several members of the same family.
Sunlight
Melanomas occur most often on skin that is regularly exposed to the sun.
